What to look for in mountain

An e-MTB isn't a moped with knobby tires. Mid-drive only (a hub motor can't survive trail abuse), 140mm+ travel for trail bikes, 160mm+ for enduro. Battery integration matters — exposed packs catch on rocks. Service network is non-negotiable: when something breaks, you want local support.

Who it's for

Trail riders who want to fit more laps into a ride without giving up real mountain-bike handling.

Prioritize

Mid-drive only — hub motors can't survive trail abuse
140mm+ travel for trail, 160mm+ for enduro
Fully integrated battery that won't catch on rocks
Quality 4-piston brakes and grippy, trail-rated tires
A local service network for suspension and motor support

Watch out for

Hub-motor 'e-MTBs' that overheat and handle poorly
Bargain suspension that can't keep up with the motor's speed
Stock tires too thin for serious terrain
