Budget-minded folks, or anyone who wants long range and easy roadside repairs, should skip it: this is a boutique bike with proprietary parts, not a value play.

The 8.8 leans on build quality and ride feel: the enclosed drivetrain, hydraulic discs and clean fast fold set it apart, and the GocycleConnect app adds genuine assist tuning. Note our spec caution on the motor criterion — Gocycle declines to publish a real torque figure, quoting only an '~60 Nm equivalent' for its front hub, so treat that number with skepticism. Real-world range is modest at 40 miles, and serviceability is the honest weak spot because proprietary parts make you dealer-dependent.

The trade-off is a premium price and closed ecosystem for a genuinely special object. If you value design and don't mind depending on Gocycle for parts, it delivers. If you want the same fold-and-go convenience with a lower price and an unpublished-torque asterisk removed from the equation, a Brompton Electric folds smaller for less — but rides slower, on rim brakes, without the G4's engineering flourishes.
