80 lb and Two Range Figures — Retrospec Valen Rev+ Review

Retrospec publishes two range figures and two weights for the Valen Rev+. We compare those claims with public test reports; we have not tested this bike.

80 lb and Two Range Figures — Retrospec Valen Rev+ Review

We have not tested this bike. Every number below comes from Retrospec or public test reports, not measurements we made. Price: $1,299.99, checked 4 Nov 2026.

Two range figures

There are two different range figures on this bike's product page, 13 miles apart. Retrospec's copy and spec table both say 68 miles per charge. The FAQ on the same page says up to 55 miles in ideal settings, naming assist level, terrain, wind, tire pressure and rider weight as conditions. Plan around the lower figure.

What testers measured

One independent tester measured 36.45 miles on pedal assist 6; another recorded 35 miles, throttle only; a third got about 30. None saw 68.

Two weights, and the scale

The product page lists 72 lb, battery included; Retrospec's help centre lists 78 lb. Testers who weighed it got 80.5 lb with the battery in — 8.5 lb over the product page and 2.5 lb over the help centre. One reviewer's warning: at 80 pounds, you will not carry this up stairs.

Specs

Retrospec lists a 20-inch fat tire bike with a 750 W rear hub motor; a 720 Wh LG battery, chargeable on or off the bike; 20x4-inch puncture-protected tires; a 100 mm travel triple-clamp fork; Tektro hydraulic brakes with 180 mm rotors; and Shimano Altus 8-speed. Its spec table gives a recommended weight limit of 350 lb. Walk mode and an easily removed rear wheel are also listed.

Retrospec claims UL 2271 for the battery and UL 2849 for the e-bike — those are Retrospec's claims, not ours.

Class and speed

Retrospec's main product page states no class. Reviewers consistently report that it ships as Class 2, with 20 mph throttle and assist, and is switchable to Class 3 for 28 mph pedal assist. Throttle stays at 20 mph in every mode. Check local law before assuming 28 mph is legal.

Brakes, missing extras and returns

One public test averaged 20 ft 7 in to stop from 20 mph. There is no rear rack and no turn signals. Returns run 14 days; a bike returned less than new and unused, including one you assembled or rode, carries a 50% restocking fee.
