Consumer Product Safety Commission Issues Recall on 47,000 Imported E-Bike Batteries

The Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced a Level 2 recall covering approximately 47,000 lithium-ion battery packs sold under multiple white-label and DTC e-bike brand names between October 2024 and February 2026. The packs were manufactured by a single Shenzhen-based contract supplier that has not been publicly named.

CPSC investigators have linked at least 18 fire incidents to the packs — five of which resulted in significant structural property damage. No deaths or serious injuries have been reported. The packs share a common BMS firmware that fails to detect a specific overcharge condition; the failure mode is thermal runaway during charging.

The recall covers replacement battery packs sold separately on Amazon, eBay, and Walmart Marketplace, as well as packs shipped on bikes from at least seven brand names. The CPSC notice lists the specific model SKUs and serial number ranges. Owners are eligible for a full refund of the pack purchase price or a free replacement pack from a certified supplier.

Affected buyers are instructed to stop using the battery immediately, store it outside the home, and contact the brand of original purchase for return shipping instructions. Do not attempt to dispose of the pack in regular trash or curbside recycling.
