The Global E-Bike Market Crossed $65 Billion in 2026 — and It's Still Climbing

Multiple research firms now peg the 2026 e-bike market between $59B and $75B, with double-digit annual growth forecast through the early 2030s. Behind the headline number is a quieter story about who is actually buying — and why.

The Global E-Bike Market Crossed $65 Billion in 2026 — and It's Still Climbing

Pick almost any market-research firm and the 2026 e-bike numbers are eye-watering: Fortune Business Insights pegs the global market at $65.8 billion this year, Research and Markets at $69.9 billion, and Precedence Research north of $75 billion. The estimates differ mostly because firms disagree on what counts (e-mopeds and scooters inflate the bigger figures), but every one of them agrees on the direction: up, with double-digit annual growth forecast deep into the next decade.

Behind the headline figure is a more interesting story about who is buying. The early e-bike boom was driven by enthusiasts and early adopters. The 2026 growth is increasingly mainstream: commuters replacing a second car, parents using cargo bikes for school runs, older riders who want to keep cycling, and delivery riders for whom an e-bike is a working tool, not a toy.

That maturation is visible in the product mix, too. The market is splitting into a value tier — led by direct-to-consumer brands holding aggressive price points — and a premium tier, where integrated systems, better batteries, and dealer service justify a higher spend. The squeezed middle is where most of the brand casualties have happened.

Our read: a growing market is good news for buyers, because it funds the R&D that produces lighter bikes, denser batteries, and better safety systems. But a hot market also attracts opportunists. The same growth chart that excites investors is what draws in the uncertified, fire-prone bargain bikes we keep warning about.

If you're shopping in a booming market, let the growth work for you: there has never been more genuine choice at every price point. Just don't let the size of the market lull you into skipping the basics — certification, a real warranty, and a brand that will still exist to honor it.
