Safety and the law
Ride it as a Class 1, 2 or 3 e-bike. Velotric's app offers a Custom Mode that enables throttle up to 28 mph (Velotric says it is not supported in California). That goes beyond the standard Class 1–3 definitions and may not be allowed on bike paths, so keep the bike in its Class 1/2/3 settings and check your local rules.

The Discover 3 builds on the bike we already recommend. It has a longer-range 730 Wh battery, an air fork and suspension seatpost for rough pavement, and UL 2849 certification. Keep it in its Class 1–3 settings. Velotric offers an app “Custom Mode” with throttle up to 28 mph, which goes beyond standard e-bike classes and may not be allowed on bike paths.

Watch-outs
61 lb; the hub motor is less punchy on steep climbs than a mid-drive; one owner reports a basic drivetrain and noisy brakes (Reddit).
