Folding lock
A folding lock lives in a frame holster, so it's always with you, and its long reach wraps around racks a U-lock can't. Great for quick stops; pair it with a U-lock for long ones.

Folding locks are hardened steel plates joined by rivets that fold into a compact block and clip to your frame. Their long reach makes it easier to lock a big e-bike to thick posts and odd-shaped racks.
Security varies a lot between models. Check the independent rating the maker lists (Sold Secure or ART), treat lower-rated folding locks as a deterrent for short stops in low-risk spots, and use a high-rated U-lock overnight or in high-theft areas. Take the battery with you either way.

Pro tips from the e-bike pros
- Mount the holster where it won't rub cables or your knees.
- Register the lock's key number with the maker so you can order spares.
- In high-theft cities, use a folding lock as your second lock, not your only one.
