If your e-bike lives on a porch, balcony or driveway, a cover protects the display, saddle, contacts and drivetrain from rain, dust and UV. Look for a cover sized for e-bikes (they're taller and longer than most bikes), water-resistant ripstop fabric, and lock holes so you can lock through it. Consumer Reports publishes an e-bike cover buying guide if you want to compare more models.

Take the battery inside when you can, and never charge under a cover. A neoprene battery sleeve helps in cold weather, but take it off before charging.

Pro tips from the e-bike pros

  • Never charge the battery under a cover.
  • Let a wet bike dry before covering it for days.
